Learning is an art. It reflects the effort, desire, and skills that students incorporate into the method of acquiring knowledge. This process of building artwork, including assessment, creates self-reflection and self-awareness. Providing an opportunity to learn, through artistic expression, will increase a student’s ability to function as a, “responsible, contributing member of a culturally diverse and global community”.
With this awareness, it is essential to (1) incorporate reading into an art curriculum exploration. (2) Integrate multiculturalism into this curriculum either in study or artistic practice, while considering, (3) the technological advances appropriate to its practice. Many cultures have developed artistic styles synonymous with current practice and artistic trends. Creating a learning environment that embraces these concepts and ideals will help facilitate strengthened student learning and help to promote diversity among students while providing a historical perspective to its means.
